A simply delightful night.

In 8th grade, I had a huge crush on a boy named Tim. Tim was my Jake Ryan. We had our last dance coming up at school and I wanted to get all fancied-out so that there would even be glimmer of hope that Tim (siiiiigh) would ask me to dance. My aunt came over and did my hair and my nails, painted cherry red. I wore a crushed velvet dress (which, by the way, was very hot in 1996) and I thought I was lookin gooood. I walked into that cafeteria turned 'Starry Night' dance floor with confidence until I saw Tim and melted. I stood next to my girlfriends, smiling and staring at first. After about an hour and a half of trying to 'look sexy' dancing to LL Cool J's 'Hey Lover' and Coolio's 'Gansta's Paradise', holding back adolescent tears to Boys II Men, and rocking out to the Macarena, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Green Day - it finally happened...Mariah Carey's 'Always be my baby' had just started playing and right then, Tim walked up to me and asked me to dance. I didn't know if I was going to be able to breathe. I sucked in, smiled, and let myself get swept away in his Michael Jordan Cologne while we held eachother akwardly. I knew we were graduating middle school and going to different high schools, so this was goodbye..but I was still glowing when I went to bed that night, and I woke up smiling the next morning. It was ok that we weren't going to see eachother again because he danced with me.

That is my 8th grade overly dramatic (in true Veronica fashion) comparison of how last night felt.

Andy was the first to call in, shortly followed by Maria, and Marc. Andy and Marc domineered the conversation, but in a very endearing and relaxing way. Maria was just how she seems - funny, sweet, a little shy, but willing to add on to anything. At one point, I asked a question about buying jokes, and I was about a word short of finishing the question when I was blatently innteruped...it was a little off-putting until I realized that I was an idiot and I had accidentally hit my mute button a few minutes earlier and that they hadn't heard me. I'm really special sometimes. Marc was probably the most opininated, he had some good points, and it was nice to sit back and listen. Andy actually suprised me with his suppression on certain topics that I assumed would be his 'hot buttons'. Everyone took turns and it was truley enjoyable. I laughed a little at the mental picture of if Maria were to confront a comic hacking a bit of hers. All in all, it felt like it flew by...it was literally over before any of us were ready for it to be. I got off the phone gratified, with a little glow, and woke up this morning with a 'Tim danced with me last night' smile on my face. I can't wait for the next show.

Podcastic!

So, I was interviewed by an online entertainment magazine called Pop Rock Candy Mountain, the interview went great, and the editor (Jeff "fuck yes" Clark - exceptionally awesome human being) asked me if I'd be interested in co-hosting a brand spanking new podcast they'd be launching late June/early July. I didn't have to think for long before saying "Eff yes". Tonight we record our first show....and I'm wicked (yes, I say wicked...deal with it...it's not like I'm saying 'hella') excited about it. The topic is Hacking Jokes / Joke Stealing and our guests are:

Maria Bamford
Bammers

I find this lady particularly hilarious. She is part of the amazing Comedians of Comedy (with my boyfriend, Zach Galifinakas) and has been on and/or a part of more things than I can name. I haven't seen her live yet, as everytime she comes to Portland I've had shows, which is so frustrating. The next time I get the chance, I will see her...try and stop me. Here's her myspace page...you can find all of her goings on there...

Marc Maron
Maron

I recently saw Marc Perform alongside the incredibly funny Eugene Mirman and the unforgettable Andy Kindler in their 'Stand Uppity Tour' the show - aside from being on a feverishly hot Sunday night, was great. Watching Marc was a little odd though because he scarily reminds me of one of my brothers, John. I was sitting next to another comedian at the show, a comedian who knows John and the whole time Marc was onstage we just kept looking at eachother wide-eyed with telepathic thoughts of "oh my god...this guy is a jewish John in another body" everything from the Harry Potter glasses to the manurisms to the bittersweet tone of the story of their lives. I'm pumped to see what Marc has to say on the show.

And our final guest:

Andy Kindler

As I mentioned earlier, I saw Andy at the 'Stand Uppity Tour' show where he was the Tigger to Marc's Eeyore. It was a balanced blend, with Eugene Mirman being the icing on the gluten free cake. I ate it up. Andy was very full of energy, he was having fun and you could tell. In IMBd-ing Andy, I found that he has also been a part of many wonderful things...everything from Letterman to Everybody Loves Raymond. Andy is pretty outspoken and I'm excited and a little nervous to see how the show goes. I'm hoping the other guests will get a word in edgewise. I have to say though, there is a little butterfly in my stomach flapping it's wings with excitement for when we tell him the topic, and his tirade begins.
Andy's Website (not sure why he's not on myspace...maybe I should suggest it)

I will post as soon as I know when we will be airing the podcasts. As of right now (as in this moment in this day) we are shooting for July 1st. Until then...feel free to check out the PRCM website because it's awesome.
